Tesla Leads in North American Sourcing for 2025 Models

Tesla has once again demonstrated a strong commitment to North American manufacturing for its 2025 vehicle lineup. According to Tesla’s latest disclosures with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the company’s vehicles boast the highest percentage of parts sourced from the United States and Canada, far outpacing traditional automakers who sell themselves as being American-made.

Tesla’s impressive sourcing strategy is most evident in its popular Model 3 and Model Y lines. Both the Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variants of the Model 3 are composed of 75% North American parts, tying with the Honda Ridgeline Sport for the top spot.

Similarly, the Model 3 Performance and all variants of the Model Y each incorporate 70% parts from the US and Canada.

The Cybertruck also performs exceptionally well in North American parts sourcing, with 65% of its components originating from the US and Canada. This sets the Cybertruck as the most American-made full-size pickup, surpassing traditional giants like the Ford F-150. In comparison, the gas-powered Ford F-150 only sources 45% of its parts locally, while the F-150 Lightning fares even worse at 29%.

When comparing other full-size pickups, the Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra each source 55% of their parts from North America, while the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra EV lag behind at 36%. These figures illustrate a significant gap between Tesla and legacy automakers, challenging the long-held perception that they dominate the landscape of domestically sourced vehicles.

Tesla’s commitment to local sourcing doesn’t stop with its three most popular vehicles. The Model S and Model X similarly maintain high standards with 65% and 60% of parts sourced from North America, respectively. Even the Model X, with the lowest percentage among Tesla’s 2025 models, outperforms many competitors that often rely heavily on international suppliers.
