Rivian’s Latest Software Update Brings Iconic Car Costumes for Halloween

Rivian has introduced a new software update that can transform your R1T or R1S into two iconic cars from Hollywood, or a haunted car, for Halloween. The update introduces three unique “Car Costumes,” each inspired by fan-favourite vehicles, and are available for a limited time, starting October 18th, 2024, until November 4th.

Knight Rider

For fans of the classic 1980s TV series Knight Rider, Rivian’s new software update allows you to transform your R1 vehicle into the artificially intelligent, crime-fighting K.I.T.T. Once you activate this Car Costume via the Rivian mobile app, you’ll be greeted by Gear Guard dressed as Michael Knight. The vehicle’s interior display will mimic K.I.T.T.’s diagnostic screens, and you’ll even hear the original theme music from the show.

If you own a Gen 2 model, the experience gets even better. The exterior light bar on your vehicle will light up with K.I.T.T.’s iconic red scanner beam, and the sound system will play the famous scanner sound effect.

Back to the Future

Rivian has also introduced a Back to the Future Car Costume that turns your R1 into the DeLorean Time Machine. Once you select this costume from the mobile app, Gear Guard will dress as Doc Brown, complete with a lab coat. The interior display will feature the iconic Time Machine interface, complete with a Plutonium Chamber gauge and the famous date selection from the movie.

Gen 2 owners get a special treat. Pressing the 88 mph button will activate a light and sound show reminiscent of the DeLorean’s time-travel scenes, with the vehicle’s front and rear lights flashing in sync with the film’s acceleration effects.

Haunted Rivian

Rivian has also introduced the Haunted Car Costume. Activating this mode through the mobile app turns Gear Guard into a scarecrow, and the vehicle’s interior display is taken over by spooky static images of ghosts. You can choose from three different color themes—purple, yellow, and green—which will light up the vehicle’s exterior if you have a Gen 2 model.

For both Gen 1 and Gen 2 owners, this costume comes with eight sound effects.

Extra Halloween Features

In addition to the new Car Costumes, Rivian’s update brings other Halloween-themed enhancements. As with previous years, pedestrians on the driver display will appear as zombies, and bicyclists and motorcyclists will become headless horsemen. Camp Mode gets a Halloween update too, with crows, pumpkins, and green flames appearing during nighttime settings. Plus, Rivian’s Owl chirp is back, alongside other new chirp options for both Gen 1 and Gen 2 owners.
