Tesla Megapacks will soon be powering two new battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Energy Siting Facilities Board recently granted approval for two energy storage facilities, with a combined capacity of 400MW/800MWh.
The Medway facility will see 140 Tesla Megapacks installed on-site with the ability to provide 250MW/500MWh of capacity. The Cranberry Point Energy Storage project is a 150MW/300MWh BESS set to be established in Carver, Massachusetts, alongside ancillary facilities.
Plus Power, a company based in San Francisco, is leading the development of the Cranberry Point facility. This project has been in the works since 2017 and initially received approval from the City of Carver Planning and Conservation Board in March 2019. Like the Medway facility, this project will also utilize Tesla Megapack batteries. Construction of the Cranberry Point Energy Storage facility is anticipated to start in 2023. (via PV Magazine)
Once up and running, these two facilities alone are expected to meet 80% of the state’s 1 GWh energy storage deployment target set for 2025.
