There is some good news for soon-to-be Tesla owners across Canada who have been seeing their delivery dates pushed back as the strike impacting ports in British Columbia has ended.
Since the Canada Day weekend over 7,000 workers at more than 30 B.C. ports have been striking over pay, contracting out, and several other concerns. With Tesla’s recent decision to begin importing vehicles to Canada from China, this meant delays as the Viking Sea cargo ship which left Shanghai in mid-May loaded with Model 3 and Model Y vehicles could not unload at the Port of Vancouver.
UPDATE June 19: The port strike is back on after the workers union rejected the deal. The one ship that had Teslas on it was offloaded before the strike resumed yesterday. Another ship is on the way. Morning Margarita with approximately 2,500 Teslas is currently off the coast of Vancouver Island, and was scheduled to be offloaded July 25. Depending on how long the strike lasts that date could be delayed.
We have been contacted by several of our readers over the past few weeks, including Nick Sharad, who placed his order for a Model Y Long Range on April 21, 2023 but has seen his delivery date estimates slip from May to June, and now into July. The current estimate could be accurate now as the strike officially ended on Thursday.
According to the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, its members and the BC Maritime Employers Association reached a tentative agreement to end the strike, effective from 10:20 a.m. on July 13, 2023.
It will obviously still take some time for the Viking Sea to be unloaded, which according to the Marine Traffic is currently anchored off Vancouver Island, but there will be progress and you should hopefully be receiving an updated delivery estimate soon.

The BCMEA and the ILWU have accepted the Terms of Settlement from federal mediators. The parties have reached a tentative agreement.
