Tesla has clarified the ownership rules of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) as the deadline for outright purchases looms.
Earlier this month Tesla sent out an email to customers about the upcoming February 14 deadline to purchase FSD outright. However, the email contained some confusing wording, stating that FSD only stays with your car “as long as you own it.”
That appeared to go against its previous policy that FSD stayed with the car, even when you sold it to a third party, causing a significant level of confusion ahead of the purchase deadline.
Tesla is sending out emails as the February 14th FSD purchase date deadline approaches.
A new email states, “When you purchase Full Self-Driving (Supervised),* it stays with your Tesla as long as you own it.”

However, according to a new email sent out by Tesla on Saturday, they have now clarified that is not the case, and FSD stays with the car, period.
This leaves buyers with certainty that FSD will still be available to a new purchaser in the future.

The email also reminds customers FSD is moving to a subscription only model on February 14, where owners will only be able to pay $99 per month for access.
CEO Elon Musk, however, has revealed that Tesla might hike the FSD subscription fee as more capabilities are added.
FSD is a feature that can potentially increase the value of a used Tesla. Tesla claims it improves road safety by over 80 percent and helps prevent nearly 2 million potential injuries per year.
FSD has been credited with saving a driver’s life in Georgia. The ADAS directed the car to the hospital after the driver suffered a massive heart attack behind the wheel. FSD also recently guided a Tesla from coast to coast in the US, twice.
