Tesla Model Y L Deliveries in China Extend Into November

Tesla’s newest variant of its best-selling crossover, the Model Y L, is proving to be a hot commodity in China as the six-seat version of the Model Y is now seeing long delivery days for new orders.

Tesla unveiled the Model Y L in China in mid-August, and days after its debut, reports indicated the company was receiving as many as 10,000 orders per day.

Initially Tesla said the first deliveries would begin in September, and the company followed through on that, with the first deliveries taking place on September 2.

Now just weeks later, and order backlogs have grown to the point where estimated delivery windows on the online Design Studio are now stretching into November 2025, highlighting the popularity of the new extended wheelbase version of the electric SUV among Chinese buyers.

The Model Y L is a reimagined version of Tesla’s best-selling SUV, featuring an extended wheelbase and a standard six-seat configuration. Built exclusively at Giga Shanghai, this version is aimed squarely at family buyers who want more interior space without moving up to the much pricier Model X.

The stretched body offers increased rear legroom and improved cabin comfort, while the new second-row captain’s chairs add flexibility for families. Passengers in the back also benefit from dedicated climate controls, a common complaint of the seven-seat Model Y, and a rear display screen.

Tesla has updated the interior with ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, acoustic glass, and enhanced sound insulation, creating a noticeably more premium atmosphere compared to the standard Model Y. Exterior refinements, including new wheel designs, further differentiate the Y L from its shorter sibling.

The Model Y L starts at RMB 339,900, which converts to roughly C$66,200 or US$47,700.

While Chinese customers are lining up, Tesla fans in North America will have to wait. Elon Musk has said that the Model Y L will not arrive in Canada or the U.S. until late 2026 — if it comes at all. Musk has hinted that if Full Self-Driving (FSD) matures to the point of widespread robotaxi use before then, Tesla might not sell the Model Y L outside of China.
