Polestar 5 Debuts With Supercar Power and Long-Range Capability

Polestar has officially unveiled its long-anticipated flagship grand tourer, the Polestar 5. While the car has been revealed in Europe, Canadian and U.S. pricing will be announced later, though figures abroad suggest it will command a six-figure price tag when it arrives in North America.

For Canadians eager to see the Polestar 5 on local roads, the brand has yet to confirm launch timing or exact MSRPs. However, based on European conversion rates, it is anticipated that starting prices will begin well over C$150,000 for the Dual Motor variant and closer to C$180,000 for the Performance trim.

Range is also a key selling point. Under the more generous WLTP cycle, the standard Dual Motor version is rated for up to 670 km (416 miles) on a charge, while the Performance variant manages about 565 km (351 miles). Even with the stricter EPA-equivalent test cycles, real-world numbers should remain competitive and likely come in at around 470–500 km (290–310 miles) for the Dual Motor variant, and around 395–425 km (245–265 miles) for the Performance

American buyers will face a similar wait, and prices will be equally expensive at around US$140,000 and US$167,000 for the Dual Motor and Performance trims respectively.

There is an important caveat to these prices. The Polestar 5 will be produced in China, so Canadian and U.S. buyers could also face steep tariffs, potentially inflating prices further.

Powertrain and Performance

The Polestar 5 will be available in two all-wheel-drive configurations. The base Dual Motor delivers 738 horsepower and 812 Nm of torque, launching from 0–100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. For those seeking maximum performance, the aptly named Performance model unleashes 872 horsepower and 1,015 Nm of torque, trimming the sprint to 3.2 seconds. Both versions are capped at a 250 km/h (155 mph) top speed.

Power comes from a 112 kWh battery pack supported by an 800-volt electrical architecture. Charging capabilities are equally impressive: up to 350 kW DC fast charging enables a 10–80% refill in about 22 minutes. For home setups, the car is equipped with a 19 kW AC charger.

Style and Design

True to its concept roots, the Polestar 5 blends minimalist Scandinavian design with futuristic flair. The sleek silhouette, frameless doors, and 20- to 22-inch wheels give it a low, aggressive stance. But the most controversial decision is the removal of the rear window. Instead, drivers will rely on a high-definition digital rearview mirror, a move aimed at improving aerodynamics and creating more space for rear passengers.

Inside, luxury takes center stage with Recaro-designed seats, premium materials like Nappa leather or MicroTech, and a suite of high-tech displays, including a 14.5-inch central touchscreen running Android Automotive with Google integration. A panoramic glass roof—the largest yet on a Polestar—bathes the cabin in natural light.
