Tesla’s Sales Decline Across Europe Continues

Tesla is facing a notable decline in new vehicle registrations across key European markets, with recent data showing a nearly 46% drop in Germany and a 62% fall in the United Kingdom in April 2025 compared to the same month last year.

The downturn comes as demand for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Europe continues to climb, highlighting the challenge Tesla is facing from shifting public sentiment.

According to Germany’s KBA (Federal Motor Transport Authority), Tesla sold just 885 vehicles in April, a 45.9% year-over-year decrease. Cumulatively, from January to April 2025, Tesla’s sales in Germany have fallen by 60.4%, totaling only 5,820 units.

Meanwhile, total BEV registrations in Germany surged by 53.5% last month, highlighting how Tesla is losing ground even as the overall market expands.

Other major European countries are reflecting similar trends. In Spain, Tesla registrations dropped 36% in April, and in France and Sweden, declines exceeded 59% and 80%, respectively. The UK saw one of the sharpest declines, with Tesla registrations tumbling to just 512 units in April, down from over 1,300 the year prior.

Despite the rollout of the new Model Y, which was largely attributed to the decline in sales early in the year, Tesla has struggled to maintain market share. Analysts suggest that production line adjustments earlier in the year—particularly at Giga Berlin—caused delays that hurt first-quarter deliveries. However, there are likely deeper issues in Europe tied to Elon Musk’s growing political involvement and support far-right parties in Europe, l

Tesla’s market share in countries like Norway—once a stronghold—has also declined, falling from 18% to 11% year-over-year. Many of the recent Tesla registrations there were for used models, not the newly updated Model Y variant.
