You can now order the Performance Model Y with the 20” Induction wheels at no charge

When Tesla released the Performance Model Y, you had to choose between the gorgeous looking but curb-rash prone and range reducing 21” Überturbine wheels, or the not-as-nice looking 19” Gemini wheels.

Now Tesla has updated the online Design Studio to allow you to add the middle-of-the-road 20” Induction wheels to a Performance Model Y configuration at no charge.

According to the Design Studio, you get a significant range boost with the smaller Induction wheels. The rated range with the 20” Induction wheels is 507km (315 miles), compared to 451km with the 21” Überturbine wheels.

To add the optional Induction wheels, select the Performance model but do not click the checkbox for the ‘Add Performance Upgrade’ package. One the next page, you can select either the 19” Gemini wheels, or the newly added option of the 20” Induction wheels.

The Model Y has not yet been released in Canada, but we are expecting to see the first deliveries this month or next. Tesla recently updated the pricing on the electric SUV, increasing the price by several thousand dollars, while at the same time adding an optional tow hitch.
